Sensitivity Removal Technique (SRT)

WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?

Up to 30% of adults and 40% of children in the United States suffer from allergic diseases. Sneezing, bronchitis, hives, itching, asthma, and swelling are symptoms experienced by many allergy sufferers. Even more common, but seldom correctly diagnosed, are symptoms of delayed allergy and sensitivity to foods and chemicals including, but not limited to: headaches, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, urinary urgency or frequency, muscle and joint pain and stiffness, and chronic sinusitis.

WHAT IS SRT?

Sensitivity Removal Technique (SRT) is a treatment that assists in the removal of allergies and sensitivities. SRT can eliminate adverse reactions to many allergens including food, drugs, latex, pollens, molds, flowers, perfume, animal dander, cosmetics, chemicals, tobacco smoke, pathogens, and environmental triggers including heat and cold. (Note: Avoidance of known chemical toxins and carcinogens is recommended even after tolerance is gained.) SRT was developed by an Ohio physician, Dr. Sherri Tenpenny, who desired to streamline similar methods in which she had trained: Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique (NAET), BioSET and Jaffe-Mellor technique. Only after her adaptations were perfected over seven years of practice did Dr. Tenpenny begin to train others in her technique. As a result, SRT is now being offered at The Alpine Clinic. SRT is a non-invasive, drug-free and natural solution to eliminated sensitivities of all types and intensities, utilizing three disciplines; acupuncture/acupressure, kinesiology and homeopathy.

EAST MEETS WEST

From a western medicine perspective, allergy is an overreaction of the immune system to a substance that is harmless to most individuals. Oriental Medicine principles see allergies and sensitivities as resulting from disrupted energy flow in the body’s energy pathways (meridians). This blocked energy flow causes imbalances in yin and yang, opposite states (moist, dry; hot, cold; male, female; etc.) that combine to form Xi (vital energy). Xi is balanced in health and imbalanced during disease states. Disruption in the body’s energy flow can cause imbalances in Xi that result in allergic symptoms and a diminished state of health in one or more organ systems. According to Oriental medical principals, when the body is in perfect balance (homeostasis), no disease is possible. According to acupuncture theory, stimulation of specific acupuncture points is capable of bringing the body to a state of homeostasis by restoring the free flow of energy. By addressing the blocked flow of energy, obstacles to balancing energy and health are removed and health may be restored.

HOW IS SRT DONE?

While the patient is in contact with vials that contain the substances that have been identified as allergic, pressure is applied to specific acupuncture points along the spine to open up energy flow to the central nervous system. Acupressure is then also used to activate specific acupuncture point on the arms and legs to open energy flow throughout the body. SRT is needle-free. The patient is asked to lie quietly for 15 minutes after a treatment. Since the treatment has a profound impact on physiology, symptoms such as headaches, perspiration, nausea, and emotional releases may occur. The patient is required to not eat or drink for three hours after a treatment. The patient may be asked to also avoid contacting other specific substances to which he is being desensitized for three hours after treatment.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

All patients receive three basic treatments that build the immune system and desensitize basic essential biochemical and nutrients, preparing the body for further desensitization. After the initial three treatments are completed, one or more additional treatments may be needed, depending on the severity of allergic illness. Chemicals, specific environmental allergens, hormones, vaccination, etc., can be addressed after completing the first three basic treatments.

ABOUT NUTRITION

Considering the fact that most people eat three or more times a day, there are many opportunities for an allergy-prone person to develop allergies or sensitivities to foods. Not only are symptoms of food allergy uncomfortable, but also the resulting changes in the digestive and immune system can cause interference with the absorption and utilization of nutrients. Allergies and sensitivities to the vitamins and minerals in foods can also occur. In an effort to feel better, persons suffering from allergic illnesses often take vitamin and mineral supplementation, but may unknowingly take the very nutrient to which they are allergic or sensitized, actually making themselves feel worse. After nutrient sensitivities are addressed by SRT and a period of avoidance is observed, specific nutritional supplementation may be recommended to address deficiencies or enhance function. *The information on these documents available on the Alpine Clinic web site is not intended to take the place of a consultation with a licensed physician.
